ARTISTIC CURRICULUM

Alberto Maniàci was born in Palermo in September 1987. He received a first class honour degree in Piano, in Composition, and in Conducting, at the Conservatorio “V.Bellini” of Palermo, under the tutoring of Mimma Latora, Marco Betta, and Carmelo Caruso. Since 2005, he has been furthering his conducting skills with Ennio Nicotra attending various masterclasses in Perugia, Saint Petersburg, Milan and Mantova and at the same time he has participated in numerous courses held by Piero Bellugi in Florence and Rome.

As a conductor he has performed with Orchestra Giovanile Mediterranea, which he founded in Palermo in 2002; Orchestra Giovani Solisti Siciliani, Accademia Concertante d’Archi di Milano, Peter The Great Music Academy (San Pietroburgo), Orchestra Jazz Siciliana, Orchestra Filarmonica Nissena, Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini di Parma (for the “Arturo Toscanini Competition” for young conductor). Orchestra Sinfonica del Conservatorio Vincenzo Bellini di Palermo, Mediterranean Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica Giovanile Internazionale “Fedele Fenaroli” di Lanciano, Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana.

In 2012 he won the 3rd prize at the V International Competition "Luigi Mancinelli" in Orvieto for conductors, conducting the Orchestra Music Space at the same competition. In the same year he won the Premio delle Arti ("Prize of the Arts") in conducting, organized by the Ministry of Education, University and Research at the Conservatorio "Alfredo Casella" in L'Aquila. In September 2013 he was selected for the final eighth of the 53° Concourse International de Jeunes chefs d’Orchestre in Besancon ( Francia).

Significant was the making of "Don Pasquale" by G. Donizetti, under his direction, with the soloists of the “Kaleidos” association of Palermo and the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra and “Il Barbiere di Siviglia, by Gioacchino Rossini, with the same orchestra and with the soloists of the baritone Simone Alaimo (August 2013) at the ancient theater of Segesta for the festival “Le notti di Segesta”.

Recently he conducted the opera “La Baronessa di Carini” by Antonio Fortunato produced by the Conservatorio “V.Bellini” of Palermo and by “Circuito del Mito” of the Regione Sicilia. It was a premiere on 9.16.2011 and was performed at Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania.

Recently he also conducted the pianist Tamàs Vasàry in a concert dedicated to Mozart, during the concert season “Palermo Classica” with the Mediterranean Chamber Orchestra performing. 

On 2 January 2012 he conducted the New Year Concert "Invitation to the Dance" at the Theatre "Fedele Fenaroli" Lanciano (Ch).


In May of the same year he conducted the Orchestra of the Conservatorio Vincenzo Bellini in Palermo in a concert at the Sicilian Regional Assembly as part of the celebrations of "VENTI, 1992-2012", the twentieth anniversary of the massacre of Capaci.

In July 2012 he conducted the Youth Orchestra of the Conservatorio of Palermo for the "388° Festino di Santa Rosalia", produced by the City of Palermo, in which he had the dual role of conductor and arranger of some "Triunfi a Santa Rosalia".

In September of 2012 he conducted the same orchestra for the festival "Estate al Verdura" in a concert - tribute to Jon Lord with music of the same Lord and Deep Purple. Special guest and star of this concert – show was the drummer Ian Paice of Deep Purple. 

In January 2013 he was the assistant of Gaetano d'espinosa for the production of Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto at the opera Theatre de Limoges in France and of Gianluca Martinelli, in July of the same year, for the same opera at the ancient theater of Taormina.

Alberto Maniaci has conducted the premiere of the musics by Massimo Lauricella, Marco Betta, Antonio Fortunato, Giovanni D'Aquila, Lucio Garau, Alberto Maniaci, Simone Piraino.

He’s author of numerous works for chamber ensembles, soloists and orchestra and numerous arrangements and orchestrations. His arrangements have been performed by leading names in the international voice among which Desireè Rancatore, Katia Ricciarelli, Vincenzo La Scola, Noemi, Sagi Rei, Serena Abrami, Daniele Magro.

As a composer, in 2003 he realized the orchestrations and conducted the music for the soundtrack of the short film "Giocattoli” (Toys) by director Daniele Bonfiglio, the same music they have been awarded Best Short Film and Best Original Score at the national contest video "Immagini a confronto 2006” (Villa San Giovanni, RC).


Recently, however, has composed the music for the short film "Al di là di tutto” (Beyond everything)  by Gregorio Giovenco.

In 2013 he composed the music for “Natale in Fiaba” by Chiara Giacopelli, and “Casa di Alcesti” by Gianpaolo Bellanca. With the piece for cello and piano in 2004 he was at the international TIM music tournament (TIM section composition).

In May 2004 his work for trio “Mediterranea”, commissioned by Mainz Conservatoire, was performed for the first time ever at Klein – Wintherneim Rathaus.

In 2007 the chamber orchestra “Gli Armonici” commissioned him “Il volo della farfalla” (The butterfly flight) for string instruments, as well as “I luoghi dell’anima” (The soul’s places) for violin and string instruments. These works were performed for the first time ever at Palermo RAI Auditorium. 


Among his latest compositions, “Colours Inside” for violin and piano was recorded by Maurizio Rocca violinist and Dorotea Cei pianist and it will be pubblished by Undici07 Production.

In March 2013, commissioned by the Sicilian Association “Amici della Musica” of Palermo, he writes “Un’armoniosa scatola”, on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the composer, pianist and teacher Antonio Trombone. The piece was performed by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Palermo Conservatorio, conducted by Carmelo Caruso. 

In its production there is a strong presence of rhythmic elements that alternate with large and intense estatic phases, based on the experimentation and the realization of alternative harmonies, influenced by the Mediterranean flavor and the culture that surrounds his music. His music is published by Kelidon editions and Unidic07.

By the association "Il Mosaico" Alberto Maniaci was selected to participate in the musical "Marco Polo at the Court of the Great Khan" in the "International Festival of Children" held in Shanghai (China) in July 2004. He has also performed in Germany (2003) on the occasion of the twinning between the Palermo Conservatorio and the Conservatory of Mainz and recently in Beirut, Lebanon, in an opera gala sponsored by the Université Antonine Beirut and the Italian Institute of Culture in Lebanon.

He constantly adds to the activity of composer and director, that of solo pianist, of pianist accompanist and pianist in chamber ensembles, from the duet to the quartet. In this quality he performed the “Carnevale degli Animali” by Camille Saint Saens with the Sicilian symphonic orchestra conducted by Artur Fangen for the season concerts 2006-2007.

Since 2005 he is collaborator and music assistant and musical assistant at the Teatro Zappalà in Palermo, in the production of varius operetta, “Il paese del Sorriso”, “La Vedova Allegra”, “Cin Cin la” , “Acqua Cheta”, “Il Pipistrello”, “La Città Rossa”, and operas  “L’Elisir D’Amore”, “Cavalleria Rusticana”. 

Since 2008, works closely with the Music Academy of Palermo as composer and arranger. With the same has realized some arrangements for the show “BeatleSymphony" (Summer 2008) held at the Teatro Antico in Taormina and the Teatro di Verdura in Palermo and in summer 2009, was Korrepetitor, assistant of conductor, arranger and pianist in the concert event "RockSymphony”. 


The concert at the Teatro di Verdura in Palermo has featured as protagonists Noemi, Serena Abrami and Daniele Magro, (competitors of the 2008 edition of XFactor) and the ballerina Eleonora Abbagnato.

From January 2010 works closely with the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. Within the same theater was Korrepetitor and vocal coach of the young choir "Città di Palermo" in opera “Alice nel paese delle Meraviglie” (Alice in Wonderland) by the composer Giovanni D'Aquila. In November 2011 he was collaborator for the production of the opera “Help! Help! The Globolinks!” by Giancarlo Menotti.

Alberto Maniaci recorded in September 2009 the CD “Il Volo”, composed by the Sicilian composer Nunzio Ortolano.

In May 2014 he debuted Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle with Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana. At the beginning of 2015 he has conducted “Oh!Che armonico fracasso” by Cimarosa, Mozart, Bach and Maniaci; in 2017 he has created with Teresa Mannino and Alberto Cavallotti "Teresa Valery" (from "La Traviata") produced by Teatro Massimo. In 2018 he  has created "Il duello alcolico" by G. Paisiello and A.Maniaci. With the same theatre he was also the conductor of a lot of productions: “Figaro – Opera Camion!” (2016 – 2017), “Le nuvole di carta” by G. D’Aquila (2017) and a jazz concert with Paolo Fresu, trumpet. Crossover artist, Alberto Maniaci worked on Rock music contest as arranger and conductor. He's also a composer and his music is published by Edizioni Musicali Wicky, Kelidon Edizioni and U07 Edizioni.

Since 2014 he teach at Dancing Lyceum “Regina Margherita” in Palermo as ballet pianist. Since 2017 he teach also Jazz arrangement and composition at Istituto Musicale "Arturo Toscanini" of Ribera (Ag).

Next appointment will be the "Don Pasquale" Donizetti's opera in july 2018 by Teatro Massimo, Palermo.
